Review: Baby Steps Millionaires

Book Written By:  Dave Ramsey

Dave Ramsey published his first book Financial Peace in 1992 and has been teaching people to avoid debt and build wealth for years.   Though is 30 year tenure, he has hosted radio shows, created a finance coaching program and written a total of five books.  This book Baby Steps Millionaires was published recently in 2022.

I didn’t read this book but listened to it on Audible.  When I see a book read by the author, I am skeptical, as many authors are successful writers are not great at recording audio books.  However, Dave Ramsey does a very nice job reading his book, and his audio emphasis on points make it more like listening to a talk.

Dave shares many inspiring stories of people who came though adversity to create financial stability for themselves and their family.  While readers may or may not relate to the stories, it is important to note, everyone who saves for the future must sacrifice something today.  In our society of easy shopping and convenience services, there are an endless number of ways to veer off the path toward financial security.

One interesting concept Dave spends time on is helping the reader create a mental image of becoming a millionaire and accepting it as possible. His chapter Millionaires are not Billionaires goes into detail how it is very possible to become a millionaire, and most people can do it.  The author doesn’t want wealth builders to get discouraged or distracted by the uber-wealthy as an image of financial security that is out of reach.  The message is financial stability and the security that comes with it is attainable by anyone.

This book is a quick read or listen with lots of encouraging content.  It does not, however, have a lot of new information as the focus of this book is on the later steps of his process to create millionaires.  Dave’s seven step process starts with paying off consumer debt and funding an emergency fund, this book begins with saving and investing and ends with successful giving.
